6 Proper Scooter Storage Tips for Winter

6 Proper Scooter Storage Tips for Winter Winter season is approaching. So you're thinking about preparing your scooter for winter storage. Here are some proper storage tip for your scooter. This is for those of you who don't ride during the cold or snowy months. 1. If possible store your scooter in a shed or garage –. If not, cover your scooter with a weather proof cover design for scooters and motorcycles. Don’t cover with plastic because that will cause condensation. The last thing you want is moisture building up. 2. Drain your gas tank – The gas in the carburetor can evaporate leaving residue behind which can clog the whole system. So at the very least you can drain the tank, then run the engine until it uses up the gas in the carburetor. 3. Remove the battery and keep inside – The cold isn't the best place for Batteries. being without use and sitting in freezing temperatures will most likely kill it. 4. Do an oil changebefore you store your scooter. Oil picks up all sorts of contamination and leaving the engine cold and sitting in old oil isn’t a good idea. You could just drain the oil, but it’s safer to change it in case you forget to replace once spring rolls around. 5. Clean the scooter – Don’t leave any dust or grease behind. Clean off all the dirty and oily things like the brake linkages and throttle cable. 6. For extra measures you can plug the exhaust pipe – This is to prevent any little critters from nesting and trying to escape the cold. It’s not a good idea to just store the scooter and simply run the engine for short periods of time over the winter because if you don’t get everything hot enough, this may add moisture to the engine, exhaust, etc., which can then cause corrosion. Starting it up in the garage for a few minutes may do more harm than good.
