Is it Safe to Drive a Scooters? Like most automobile, scooters are subject to the same traffic rules of the road. But as with any two wheeled vehicle, there are inherent dangers in driving on the road with which you share with larger vehicles. Due to scooters small size and slower speeds these are the typical motor scooter accidents that you should be aware of and watch out for: 1. Losing of Control of Scooter – Because scooters are so light weight, their tires are small, and depending of the riders center of gravity, combined with poor road surface/conditions, a sudden slide or fall is possible . 2. Being Rear End– Depending on the scooters chosen, it can be one that travels below the speed limit in a traffic lane, which can result in an fast approaching vehicle colliding with the scooter from the rear. Please be mindful that motorize scooter are not permitted in bike lanes or sidewalks, which forces them to ride in the faster car lanes regardless of how high the speed limit. 3. Door strikes – Some scooters rider may drive too close or park too close to other vehicles when could result in be it by a car door. 4. Sideswiping – Is when a scooter riders is traveling and a car attempts to overtake them and hits them instead.
