Scooter Brakes: Disc or Drum or ABS or CBS - Which is Best?

Scooter Brakes: Disc or Drum or ABS or CBS - Which is Best? Disc brakes, Drum brakes, ABS Brakes, and CBS Brakes you may have heard or came across one of these terms when it comes to Scooters. You might wonder what is the difference between them and which is the best to have on a scooter? Well let me break it down for you. 1. Disc brake is a type of brake that uses calipers to squeeze pairs of pads against a disc to create friction. Think of it as a small thin wheel that's spinning and its sandwiched between 2 pads slowly being squeezed till it comes to a stop. You typically see this on the front wheel of your scooter. 2. Drum brake is a brake that uses friction caused by a set of pads that press outward against a rotating cylinder-shaped part called a brake drum. This type of brake is usually seen on the rear end wheel of your scooter. 3. ABS brakes also known as “Anti-lock Braking System” is without any doubt useful on a scooter, helps keep you from losing control and crashing the scooter by mistake. Without ABS there is the possible of squeezing the brakes too hard too fast cause the wheel too lock up and you could drop your scooter. Or even worst, you could go flying through the air if your riding speeds are really accelerated. 4. CBS all so known as Combine Brake System, the same thing as ABS. While normally the left brake lever controls the back wheel and the right brake level controls the front tire. CBS allows you to squeeze one lever (the left lever) and it will control both the front and back brakes. If you you don't have CBS Brakes it is never recommended to squeeze just one brake lever, But always both the left and right when coming to a complete stop. So which one is better? In my personal opinion, its based on your own preference. I recommend ABS brakes for beginners and CBS brake typically are equipped on larger engine scooters such as 200i and higher. Other than that, a Disc and Drum are just fine for the average person. It's all about your scooter handling and driving skills in the end.
