Choosing the Right Helmet for a Scooter
Whether you ride a scooters for fun or as a commuter, helmet is an important part of stay safe and comply with scooter laws.
First things first the law. In most state you don't have to wear a helmet on a 50cc scooter. And once more, take here in Texas if you pass the motorcycle course you are not required to wear a helmet on scooters that go faster than a 50cc scooter either. That being said I think we call call say a wearing a helmet best no matter what speed your driving at.
Let's talk about the type of helmets. You'll notice a motorcycle helmet looks much different from a dirt bike helmet. You have a variety of choices depending on your preference. There are 5 Main types of Helmets:
1. Full Face Helmets - Your full face and head overall covered and protected.
2. Dual Sport Helmet - you have combination of the best features of both into a single package that can be effectively used either on-road or off-road.
3. Half Shell Helmet - you get all protection for your head without your face feeling of restricted.
4. Open Face helmets - You don't have the normal chin bar that covers your chin. However the side of face has a little more protection.
5. Modular helmets - you are not intended to wear open-faced while riding. While they lack the full safety features that a full-faced helmet provides, they make up for is in a sense with convenience.
Choosing the right helmets helmet for you comes down to one of these factors:
What will the helmet be used for?
Do you plan to ride a lot or commute to work?
Will you ride everyday or only a few times a month?
What Features Do You Want? Such as: Comfort and Extra Safety
Properly Fitted Helmet
You also have to make sure you get a well fitted helmet, because it can play a major role in the outcome of an accident. A helmet that is too big will not protect your head, while on the other end of things and helmet that is too small will cause you extreme discomfort.
Lastly Price:
Price is often reflected in the materials used and features on the helmet. Basically, a more expensive helmet generally offers better protection, comfort and technology but that doesn't mean you can't find a quality helmet for a reasonable price.
